Improvisation I: Absynthe Dreams in Aspic

from The Portland Improvisations by Voice of Eye

/

about

Soriah had an instrument made of welded metal rod with a contact microphone for amplification. This was run through an Eventide Eclipse and is the heavy drone that anchors this piece. He also had an out-of-tune autoharp with a pickup that also appears on the three improvisations. Sometimes it's nice when things are not in tune.

Sometimes I wonder what motivated us to pick up his instruments when he wasn't there and start playing them. I'm glad we did. Don't leave VOE alone in your studio.

As an interesting footnote to this weekend in Portland; after the show with Soriah, he took us to an underground absynthe bar. This was literally in someone's basement. One of the best post show parties I've had. This is obviously where the title of this track originates.
